OPERATIONS MANAGER

Make your mark at the Maniototo Adventure Park

Are you an energetic leader with a passion for tourism, recreation, and community engagement? The Maniototo Adventure Park, in Naseby in sunny Central Otago, is seeking an Operations Manager to lead the day-to-day operations of our growing visitor destination and help shape its future success.

Reporting to and working with strong support from the Board of Trustees, you will oversee park operations, financial management, staff and volunteer recruitment and leadership, health and safety compliance, stakeholder relationships, and marketing initiatives. This is a diverse, hands-on role offering the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a unique community-based organisation.

The successful applicant will be physically fit, have leadership and organisational skills, financial management experience, excellent communication abilities, and a proven track record in operations, tourism, recreation, hospitality, or a related field. Experience working with volunteers and managing health and safety systems will be highly regarded.

Key Responsibilities

1. Park Operations & Management

● Oversee the smooth daily running of all adventure park activities, facilities, and services.

● Implement operational systems and processes that enhance efficiency and visitor satisfaction.

● Manage the procurement and maintenance of supplies, equipment, and infrastructure to ensure quality and reliability.

2. Financial Management

● Prepare, monitor, and manage annual budgets in line with strategic priorities.

● Track financial performance, analyse variances, and recommend corrective actions where required.

● Provide accurate and timely financial reports to the Board of Trustees, ensuring transparency and accountability.

3. Staff & Volunteer Leadership

● Lead the recruitment, induction, training, rostering, and supervision of staff and volunteers.

● Foster a positive and supportive team culture that encourages high performance and professional development.

● Ensure effective communication and clear expectations across all teams.

4. Compliance & Health and Safety

● Ensure all operations comply with relevant legislation, industry standards, and local government regulations.

● Take responsibility for the health, safety, and wellbeing of staff, volunteers, and visitors.

● Develop, implement, and monitor safety policies, emergency procedures, and risk management strategies.

5. Stakeholder Engagement & Community Relations

● Build and maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders including tourism organisations, local government, community groups, and sponsors.

● Act as a primary point of contact for external partners and represent the Adventure Park in professional and community settings.

● Support the Board of Trustees in developing partnerships that enhance the park’s reputation and reach.

6. Marketing & Promotion

● Develop and deliver marketing strategies to attract new visitors and retain existing ones.

● Oversee promotional campaigns across digital, print, and social media platforms.

● Collaborate with regional tourism networks to position the Maniototo Adventure Park as a must-visit destination.

Skills and Attributes

● Strong leadership, interpersonal, and team management skills.

● Excellent organisational and problem-solving abilities.

● Sound financial acumen, with experience in budget preparation and reporting.

● Proven ability to manage compliance requirements and health and safety systems.

● Good communication and stakeholder relationship-building skills.

● Marketing and promotional experience, ideally within tourism, hospitality, or recreation.

● High level of initiative, adaptability, and a hands-on approach.

Qualifications and Experience

● Previous management experience in a relevant field such as tourism, recreation, hospitality, or operations.

● Knowledge of financial management, compliance, and risk management practices.

● Experience leading and developing teams, including volunteers.

● Familiarity with health and safety regulations, ideally within a recreation or adventure environment.

● Tertiary qualification in business management, tourism, recreation, or a related discipline (desirable but not essential).

● Be in good health and physically fit.

● Be a New Zealand citizen or current resident in NZ holding a valid NZ work visas Working Relationships

● Reports directly to the Board of Trustees.

● Manages staff and volunteers across park operations.

● Works closely with local and regional tourism organisations, contractors, suppliers, and community partners.

This is a dynamic leadership role requiring, in conjunction with and support from the Trustees, a balance of strategic oversight and hands-on management. The Operations Manager will play a pivotal role in ensuring the Maniototo Adventure Park continues to deliver outstanding experiences for visitors while contributing to the vibrancy of the wider community.
